Multimodal transportation is the transportation of any cargo by two or more modes of transport organized by one logistics company. The carrier has the right to use vehicles belonging to other companies for delivery. In this case, all responsibility for the delivery of the cargo falls only on him, as the price for the entire route is included in one contract. The contractor must independently calculate the cost of delivery, taking into account various factors: the type of cargo, time, the final point of unloading and the availability of suitable flights.
Multimodal freight transportation is actively used in the following cases:
- There is no direct connection between the customer and the shipper by one mode of transportation.
- Available modes of transportation do not meet the customer’s requirements for certain reasons: high cost, long delivery time, etc.
